UC Love Data Week 2025 is officially underway! Each day this week, we’ll be highlighting a different data-related resource available to the UC San Diego community. Whether you’re in the social sciences, arts and humanities or STEM fields, the Library is here to help you find, use and share data.
The first resource this week is Inter-university Consortium for Political and Social Research (ICPSR). ICPSR has been collecting and facilitating access to social science data for over 60 years and currently has nearly 21,000 studies with over 6.6 million variables.
ICPSR maintains over a dozen thematic data collections, including:
- Health and Medical Care Archive
- National Archive of Criminal Justice Data
- Social Media Archive
- Resource Center for Minority Data
- National Archive of Data on Arts & Culture
To download data from ICPSR, UC San Diego affiliates can log in using the “access through your institution” option and authenticate with their single sign on (SSO) credentials.
ICPSR also tracks citations of data hosted by ICPSR through the ICPSR Bibliography of Data-Related Publications. With about 116,000 related publications, this searchable database provides real examples of how researchers have analyzed the wide variety of data available through ICPSR.
In addition to providing access to a wide range of datasets and associated publications, ICPSR also provides online resources for teaching and learning using social science data, as well as the popular Summer Program in Quantitative Methods.
